The course examines educational policies which shape and influence priorities and practices in American Education. Using a triad of long established societal goals-equity, excellence and efficiency, the course emphasizes the evolution of programs and priorities and how they reflect societal needs and aspirations. Topics to be examined include: evolution of education policy in the US; The No Child Left Behind Act of 2002; access, equity and financial aid in higher education, among others.
