Museum volunteers meeting AU Museum Volunteers have the opportunity to gain exposure to the inner workings of our burgeoning new museum at American University and in the Washington art community. Volunteers play a vital role in the museum's development as an educational and institution. Volunteers greet and provide information to museum visitors, guide tours, organize and assist with events and community outreach, and enjoy programs ranging from lectures to studio visits.
If interested in joining the volunteer program, please download the Information & Application (pdf). For questions please contact us at museum@american.edu or 202-885-1300. Applications are accepted at all times and will remain on file for up to one year. Volunteer applicants will be invited to a volunteer orientation held in both spring and fall. Qualified candidates should possess a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing effectively with the public, and an understanding that reliability is critical.
To volunteer at the AU Museum, candidates must make a one-year commitment. Gallery representatives and docents must be available for at least one two-hour shift per month.
Our Kids @ Katzen Family Days offer children the chance to workshop with visiting artists exhibiting at the museum. Please check the Kids @ Katzen page for future events.
