About the Biology Program

The Department of Biology provides courses in the life sciences, emphasizing advances in molecular genetics, embryology, development and evolutionary biology. Faculty members conduct research in developmental biology, evolutionary biology, neurobiology, microbiology, ecology, oceanography, immunology, and molecular biology. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects at all levels.

Students have the opportunity to visit, observe, and intern in some of the nation's most prestigious biological research centers, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Teaching Lab room 103, Support Lab room 106B, and research Lab room 109 have been renovated over the summer. Come check out the new labs.

Don't miss a chance to commune with nature on the Billy Goat's Trail. Biology is organizing the hike on Sunday, August 31st. Meet in the Hurst lobby at 9 AM for a free ride and a light lunch afterwards.

Everyone is invited to the Biology BBQ on Friday, August 29th. Meet the faculty and your fellow Biology majors for a free lunch between Hurst and SIS buildings!!!

Undergraduate students interested in either a Biology major or minor should contact Dr. Connaughton for advising.

Students interested in the Environmental Studies program should contact Dr. Kim.
