Athletics
GOAL: $7.5 MILLION
AU offers an extensive athletic program that includes 19 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports for men and women, plus many opportunities for club and intramural competition.
Unlike other Division I athletic programs, AU's program has been driven not only by its success in several high-profile sports, but also by the academic achievements of its student-athletes.
More than half a century ago, we were the first in our conference to award athletic scholarships to African American athletes, and today we are among the top five percent of universities nationally that provide athletic opportunities for women.
As interest in AU athletics has grown, the constant demand for more and better athletic facilities has increased. The campaign will enable us to renovate parts of Bender Arena, revitalize playing fields, and endow coaching positions.
