Welcome
The Community Service Center at American University promotes social justice and civic engagement via community service and community-based research and learning, both locally and globally. Our programs build bridges between the AU community and the diverse communities of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. As students, you spend critical years of your lives here and we want to help introduce you to the many facets of our capital city--one that juxtaposes enormous wealth, museums, and monuments with poverty, educational inequities, and inadequate health care. Awards
American University Named to President’s Honor Roll for Distinguished Community Service
We are one of just 127 schools to be so recognized and this year the award is based on our exemplary work with youth. This marks the second time AU has received this recognition. In 2006, the university was named to the honor roll with distinction for general community service. For 2007, a total of 528 schools were named to the honor roll. Of those schools, only 127, including AU, were recognized in the "With Distinction" category. Schools receiving this recognition provided exceptional community service during the past year contributing their time, resources, energy, skills and intellect in service to America.
