Welcome new graduate students!

Congratulations on your entrance into American University! Below you will find a schedule of orientation events set for Friday, August 22, 2008 at McDowell Hall. These events are intended to familiarize you with the campus of AU and the faculty/staff in the College of Arts and Sciences. Please note the RSVP below.

Note: Some departments will be holding orientation sessions for their incoming graduate students on Friday morning before the Opening Convocation. Individual departments will make their own announcements regarding these plans. Please contact your department to inquire about separate sessions.   

Ins and Outs

Getting to AU and Around Washington, D.C.: AU runs a shuttle bus service from the main campus to the Tenleytown/AU Metro stop, which is approximately three quarters of a mile from AU’s main campus. There is also a shuttle from the main campus to AU’s Washington College of Law. Shuttles run approximately every 15 minutes from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. Hours are extended on weekends. Guests can get a taxi at the AU taxi stand, located near the Asbury Building on campus or by calling for a taxi from the front desk of their residence hall.

AU is accessible from all three major airports located in the metropolitan area. Reagan National Airport near downtown Washington, D.C., is accessible to the AU campus by Metro (subway) or taxi. Dulles International Airport is accessible by taxi, shuttle service and a special shuttle connecting to Metro’s Orange Line subway. Baltimore/Washington International Airport is accessible by shuttle and by Amtrak and MARC trains that run to Washington, D.C.’s Union Station. Guests can then travel on Metro’s Red Line from the Union Station stop to the Tenleytown/AU Metro stop.
