Employer Eligibility for Services:
The following American University Career Center services are available to employers who are hiring candidates for bona fide jobs or internships:
• Job/Internship postings
• On-campus recruiting (interviewing/information sessions)
• Job and Internship Fairs
• Information tables
A bona fide job is defined as a professional position, which is salaried or hourly (not 100% commission) and does not require the candidate to pay a fee for training, equipment, application procedures or other job-related expenses. An internship is defined as a supervised work/learning experience (offering both structure and evaluation for a student) that exposes a student to professional responsibilities in a career field of interest.
The American University Career Center reserves the right to deny access to recruiting services to an employer at any time.

• Employer representatives recruiting American University students are required to comply with the University’s policy on non-discrimination.
American University policy expressly prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, family responsibilities, political affiliation, disability, source of income, place of residence or business, or certain veteran status and any other bases under federal or local laws. Employers recruiting students at American University through the AU Career Center should adhere to these policies and practices.
Although we ascribe to the University’s policies on nondiscrimination, we are compelled by law (the Solomon Amendment) to allow the U.S. military to recruit on campus, or risk the loss of all federal funding assistance, which includes federal student financial assistance and research grants.

• The AU Career Center reserves the right to remove any posting
for any reason.
On-Campus
Recruiting Policies:

Employer representatives recruiting on the American University campus are required to comply with the University’s nondiscrimination policy. Each employer recruiting on-campus is required, therefore, to sign a statement of nondiscrimination. (see above)
• Employers are also expected to be familiar with and honor the NACE Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services and Employment Professionals.
• Use of campus facilities arranged by the American University Career Center may be used solely for the purpose of speaking with American University students and alumni about job and internship opportunities.
• Information tables may be reserved by each eligible employer once per academic year.
• Information tables and information session facilities are subject to availability.
Third Party Recruiters/Contract Recruiters:
Third party recruiters may post jobs and attend job fairs, provided that they:
• Charge no fees to the candidate
• Provide a position description for valid openings if requested
• Recruit for positions that are not salary draw or 100% commission
• Comply with all federal and District Equal Employment Opportunity
laws and University policy on non-discrimination:

Third party recruiters may participate in on-campus recruiting at the discretion of the AU Career Center staff. In general, permission may be granted if they:
• Charge no fees to the candidate
• Reveal the identity of the employer and the nature of their
agency’s relationship to the employer, and permit the Career
Center staff to verify this information by contacting the employer
• Identify the name of the employer to candidates on all announcements
• Provide a position description for valid openings if requested
• Recruit for positions that are not salary draw or 100% commission
• Release candidate information provided by the university
exclusively and only to the identified employer.
